What to wear, what to wear? Wedding season has begun!

1 Apr

What to wear to a wedding

The wedding season is upon us and with it come loads of engagement parties, bridal showers and wedding receptions. It’s hard to keep up with all these formal occasions for both our social lives and our closets! Especially when each of these occasions requires a different kind of outfit depending on the time of day, venue and formality of the event! We follow a simple set of rules when choosing our outfits:

  1. No White - No matter how good it looks on you, it’s the bride’s special day/time and you don’t want to be mistaken for the bride or steal any of her thunder. Even when it’s not the actual wedding, like an engagement party, there is a high chance the bride will wear white, so it’s better to avoid the color all together.
  2. No Sequin – Unless you’re heading to a bachelorette party at a club, sequin is a big “no-no”! It will make you look really flashy and overdressed.
  3. No Jeans/Casual wear- Even if you’re going to an informal event, avoid being too casual. Wearing a feminine sundress will always be the winning option over a pair of jeans and t-shirt.
  4. No Short dresses to a Wedding -  Although wearing a cute short dress to an engagement party is totally appropriate,  weddings are a special occasion! Day time and evening weddings require you to look more or less formal. Avoid anything that will make you look too sexy! You want to look elegant and be respectful to the wedding party, so the length of your dress should be appropriate, meaning just above the knee or a maxi.

A simple LBD will normally do the job for any formal occasion, and never seems to disappoint when you’re in a real ‘pickle’ and haven’t found a dress in time.  If you have some time, and want a cute summer dress, then shopping online is the best way to find the right style in a hassle free way! It’s fast, comfortable and there are lot’s of options to choose from! We’ve collected a few great options from our on-line store for every wedding occasion!

Colours, Florals and Flirty skirts are ideal for a daytime party! But remember if you opt for a short hemline, make sure the top part of the dress is covered.  Here are some great styles from Pavlyn.com that we think are perfect!

Military Style: Combat Boots

24 Nov

Finally, a boot that a girl can be comfortable in and still look hot! Lace-up ankle high army boots are a perfect winter companion. In the past, these babies have been privy to army soldiers or punk rock kids, but not anymore. This season, they are finally making their way into the mainstream fashion world and boy are they making a statement! Wear them over your skinny jeans, leggings or even with a mini skirt and a leather jacket for a biker chic feel. They look ultra cute with some soft socks peaking out or with untied shoelaces, plus you can also roll your jeans above the boot or tuck them in for a more laid back look. Basically, the way you choose to wear your pair is totally flexible!

Sometimes we wish we carried footwear at Pavlyn…these would definitely make it to our online store!

Trend Alert: Skeletal Style

4 Nov

Halloween is over, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop playing dress up! This might seem like a really strange trend but bones and skulls are hitting it really big right now!  The bones trend started way back in 2009 with Alexander McQueen and his trademark skull scarves, but is becoming more and more popular and is definitely here to stay! Some celebrities rocking this trend include Vanessa Hudgens, Cheryl Cole, Emma Roberts, and Kat Graham –  Don’t they look so hot?!

So, for those of you who are ballsy enough to have some fun with your outfits, scoring a skeleton inspired piece for your wardrobe is an absolute must! You can really have fun with this trend. Skulls, skeletons, and bones and the more of them, the better! We love the Wildfox Inside Out  Baggy Beach Jumper because of the ultra soft and cozy fabrics and the rad skeletal design.

Style it with your leather leggings or a skirt and some combat boots and you’ll be rocking the cutest outfit around! What do you think? Is this trend Spooky or Stylish?

Lauren Conrad’s London Coat

22 Oct

Lauren Conrad has done it – she’s created the perfect trench coat and we can’t get enough of it. Her line, Paper Crown, has designed the London Coat for the Fall 2012 Season and its gorgeous! What makes this coat so special is how perfectly it turns from a fitted top into a skirt bottom. Lauren herself has recently wore the Coat and looked uber chic in it, as she combined it with some red lips and a channel purse.  The coat is now available at Pavlyn Boutique, but hurry, this beauty won’t be around for long!

Lauren recently had another spotting in another Paper Crown piece. Again from the Fall 2012 Collection, Lauren was seen in the Madame Silk Dress in Polka Dot pattern. Looking perfectly sweet, this dress offers a healthy dose of flirtation! Want to transition into Fall? Combine the dress with black stockings and pumps and throw a blazer on top. The dress is now at Pavlyn Boutique – we bet you won’t be able to resist.

BattlePink: Help Conquer Breast Cancer in Style!

14 Oct

For those who haven’t heard of BattlePink, its a not-so-friendly battle between some of Canada’s top beauty editors and bloggers. And while the winner of the battle gets some major bragging rights, the real win is the value of funds raised for the battle to find a cure against breast cancer. For every vote cast in the competition, $1 is contributed. Yes, you heard right – all you have to do is check out the participating campaigns and cast your vote with just a click of a button! So how did Pavlyn get involved? Well, when we were approached by Beauty Connexion to participate in this amazing campaign, we were thrilled!!!! We pulled a few of our favourite pieces for Fall 2012, which was then combined with some unreal hair styles, amazing makeup, one very talented photographer and a drop-dead-gorgeous model and the rest is history!

So, please take a look at the winning campaign and don’t forget to cast your vote right here,  for this very important cause! Although only the top three shots made the final cut, we had so many other favourite shots that we couldn’t help but want to share with you…

Shoppers Drug Mart Fall 2012 Fashion Show

9 Oct

Just in-time for Fall, we were approached to help out with the Beauty Boutique Fashion show at a local Shoppers Drug Mart to show off our Fall trends. Why not, we thought… After all, it’s always such a fun experience for us to show off our favourite pieces.  The models got a full makeover, courtesy of  Smashbox and Dior, and proceeded to strut their stuff in some of our top trends for Fall 2012. What can we expect this Fall? Lots of  leather, Lace, Soft Blazers and Army Jackets all the way! Here are some pics from the event, courtesy of our amazing photographer, Anat Moshkovich. Don’t these ladies look totally gorgeous?

Pavlyn’s First Pop-Up Shop!

19 Sep

Between movie fests and shopping nights out we were crazy enough to squeeze in our very first pop-up sale on September 7th!  Thank you to all our shoppers who made it out that night and made it such a success. In case you missed it, don’t worry – we are definitely planning to have another pop-up soon!

Pavlyn Celebrity Pop Up Shop

The Pavlyn Girls

First of all, we want to send a big THANK YOU to Angela and Valentina from The Store On Queen (TSOQ) at 719 Queen Street West, where our event took place. We love their mix of sexy and edgy pieces, and they were so sweet to let us use their phenomenal venue for all our dresses, jeans, blazers, and accessories.

Second of all, we want to thank all our interns and friends who helped us make this event a reality! Especially, Lee Anne, Ruth and Stacey. We couldn’t have done it without you girls.

Thank you to The Store On Queen (TSOQ)

Dresses, Blazers and Deepa Gurnani Crystal Headpieces

The night was hot, because of the sexy clothes (of course!) and… maybe the broken AC ;) but thank goodness we had a little bubbly to cool us down!

The Pop-Up Sale Begins

We had some great sales and were able to feature some of our newest arrivals like the Keepsake Say You Will dress. Shoppers couldn’t keep their hands off our Naven, Blaque Label and For Love and Lemons dresses and blazers! It’s always so fun to see how people pair our pieces to create their own looks!

J Brand Jeans, Keepsake & For Love and Lemons Dresses

Our new Deepa Gurnani crystal headpieces were brilliant and Maria sparkled in hers throughout the night. If you’re tired of the same old accessories and want to try something new, these little headbands are a total show stopper and will instantly dress up any outfit, look super cute, and dazzle everyone! Plus, the celebs are loving Deepa’s handmade bands!

Pop-up sales are such a great way to meet new people and get an idea of what our customers like! We just love seeing the dresses in person and providing styling tips on the spot! Overall, it was a really fun night and we loved meeting all of you!

Keep your eyes out for our next pop-up. And let us know if there’s a neighbourhood you’d like to see us in!

Pavlyn Girls Photoshoot – Summer 2012

13 Sep

Photoshoots are always such a stressful experience! They leave us running around town, coordinating hair appointments and make-up, all the while making sure the photographers and the clothes are on set at the right time. We’re not sure if it would be better or worse if we hired models that we had to coordinate in addition to all this! Here is a little sneak peak of all the craziness from our last shoot for our Summer 2012 collection with Photographer Matthew De Miglio of District PR (God bless them for being so patient and making this experience so fun!)

We are now prepping for our Fall 2012 shoot, which promises to be one of our most exciting collections to date! So stay tuned for all our amazing new Fall Fashion and of course a documentary of our journey there!

Dress of the Week: Keepsake’s Lost Without You

3 Sep

Here at Pavlyn Boutique, we’ve always been huge fans of Keepsake. This brand provides glamorous pieces with the sort of unique detailing that guarantees to be a show-stopper.  And of course, all this comes at price points that cannot be beat. For this season, one of our favourite pieces by Keepsake has been the Lost Without You Dress. Right on trend, the dress features subtle cut-outs at the bodice, adding a dose of sexy with glimpses your skin. The dress is further complete with a ruffled v-neckline and a baby doll skirt, creating a real flirty effect.

A-list celebs, including Hayden Panettiere and Nicky Hilton have been spotted rocking the latest colour addition to this dress – Spearmint. Which is why  we couldn’t be more excited about adding  Keepsake’s Lost Without You Dress in Spearmint to Pavlyn Boutique!

Hayden and Nicky are glowing in this season’s hottest  colour. We love the way Nicky paired her Keepsake dress with neutral coloured pumps and clutch, allowing the gorgeous mint colour to shine.  And while Nicky’s look is great for a night out, if you’re looking for a more casual look, we suggest wearing gold gladiator sandals matched with cute gold jewelry.

Looking to tone it down for fall? We love mustard yellow and blush. Sarah Carroll opted for Keepsake’s Lost Without You Dress in Blush while Nicole Richie looked beautiful in Keepsake’s Lost Without You Dress in Mustard Yellow! We love that this dress comes in so many colours, making it easy (or hard) to choose the colour that works best for you.

Recently, we had the opportunity to style the girls from the Nat & Marie show  for their final show of the season. We chose this flirty dress in Mustard for Nat, pairing it with white pump and gold accessories.  We loved the results and so did she!

With so many celebs rocking this gorgeous dress, who do you think wore it best?

XOXO
